Another weekend of christmas making with the children! This time they made Bath Salts, which were great fun. Actually it was Linda, from the Briar Rose Gate, who suggested we did this, and I'd like to thank her for the idea! They are really straightforward - I fiddled with the recipes a bit to use what we had, (and I tested them in my bath to make sure they were fine on my fairly sensitive skin, and didn't stain the tub!)-x-
The Recipe goes as follows:

3 parts Epsom salts to 1 part crystal sea salt
(we used a tea cup to measure it)
1 tablespoon of Bicarbonate of Soda
1 tablespoon of almond oil ( or any neutral base oil suitable for massage)
Essential oil of your choice - probably about 20 drops in total.
A few drops of food colouring - ADD A LITTLE AT A TIME!

Oil combinations we used were Roman Chamomile and Lemon Thyme,
Rose and Jasmine (I can't bear Jasmine, but the girls loved it), and a rather masculine combination of Sandalwood, Myrrh, and a couple of drops of Bergamot. This was my favourite, and we added a tablespoon of Sandalwood shavings to this mix too.

Using a non-metallic bowl, we mixed all the dry ingredients together, then added the oils and mixed really well. Finally we added the colouring - subtle colours really do look better than bright ones, and really, you should probably use cosmetic grade colours bought from a specialist. Food colouring worked fine for me, and only stained my thumb when I spilt the bottle! If in doubt about whether your bath is porous and might pick up the colour, it's probably best not to use any. We packed them into clean, dry jars, and made labels, and then wrapped them in hessian squares, and they look really cool!

Our moon has been wonderful the last several nights. On setting last Friday it looked like a HUGE Harvest Moon! Sometime about the moon being the closest to earth since the 80's.

How festive you are! This is a wonderful gift idea! I made up some spice mixes to be added to hamburger meat and a can of tomato sauce, to make sloppy joes. That was my gift to neighbors and casual friends this year.
