This collection shows some paintings from a body of work where I was exploring the mythology of the 'Trickster' character - a common persona in all folklore from around the world. Here in Britain, both the fox and the magpie are associated with the trickster - playful characters, sometimes good, sometimes bad, causing trouble or saving the day.

These three paintings show the courtship of two people - the fox being the female, and the magpie the male.It's about finding out who you are, and being true to your nature, about how two characters can have, at the same time, much in common, but be very different, and how, in the process of the dance (courtship) can find a way to match your steps and dance perfectly together, while still each being themself.
