Here is an update on the Sky Pirate illustration (originally begun for IF 'Balloon'). It is slow progress - I don't get enough time, but I'm reasonably pleased by the way it is going. All the tonal values are set down now, although there is still a long way to go. The fiery orange is not a colour I usually use, and it feels very intense. I think it needs to be, and this is certainly what I intended, but nevertheless, it takes some getting used to! next, I am going to commit the cardinal sin of working back into the painting with coloured pencils, but I just love the way this gives the black crow feathers a rich iridescence.
When I looked out this morning, the sky was an appropriately fiery pink and orange. My pictures don't do it justice, but it was gorgeous against the soft frost!
And, another warm sky, in this raven treasury by Jen (Gypsy Mare Studios). Mine is the pink sunset in the top right corner, and if you click the link there are some beautiful works collected together. I especially covet an original pyrography painting from ,The Haunted Hollow Tree! It's been on my wish list for as long as I can remember!

Love the update on your sky pirates! What neat colors! I have never tried colored pencils on top of watercolor, will have to give it a try.
The Sky Pirates is turning out wonderfully!
Love the phoos too. We had snow today.
Also love the work of Haunted Hollow. I live about 20 minutes from her!
The illustration is looking great. I'm amazed by the beauty of the landscape surrounding your home. The photos are beautiful. It looks like you are very busy creating fun memories with your family. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

Took a peek at your work on Etsy. I loved the three black birds piece. I love the horse especially. Is that a japanese cherry tree? I have some of those and love seeing the red fruit under the snow in winter.
Beautiful!
Love the Sky Pirates!!! And what an awesome treasury! :-)
thanks Danielle.. ravens and crows are some of my favourite things... I love the ones you do
your pirates painting is superb.. Your lines are marvelous!!! I mean it!!!
I'm in love with the sky pirates. What an awesome idea!!
Thanks everyone!
Brenda - yes that is a japanese cherry! I have several outside my Studio window, and I love them. (That makes it sound as if my garden is huge, but they are very small trees, planted far too close together, and will probably swamp the garden eventually!)
OOh lovely pics! I LOVE the way you use colours, & that orange is amazing :)
