And the winner is.........Number 5, Laume ! Congratulations!! (and you need to contact me with your address, so I can post your painting to you)
And this is the reason I have been busy the last couple of days.
Last Thursday was Chagford Pony Sales, (which I have written about in previous years HERE).
As always, I went down for a look. It was pretty depressing - lovely foals, hardly any buyers. This little fellow above is from our local herd - born on Meldon, the hill which runs down into the village. I had noticed him over the summer, and liked him, and he caught my eye again in the sales pens. I had deliberately left my wallet at home, and resolutely not registered a buyers number, so I couldn't be tempted. He came through the ring early, and I watched without bidding. Not a hand went up, not one, and he was run out of the ring unsold. Colt after colt went through, nobody wanted them. Those colts can't run back out on the moor, and the plain truth is that they are worth more at the slaughterhouse than in the sales ring. I couldn't bear to think of him ending up there this week, so I went round and asked the farmer what he wanted for him. So here I am, £15 poorer, with a large, plain, big boned colt in my stable.
I know it was the right thing to do ;-)

Well done to the winner :D
and I'm so glad you bought this little guy. He has the sweetest little eye and I think he could turn out to be really special. What are you calling him?
Maybe I'll come down to the next sale and get a pony! Mind you, the New Forest sales are on in the Spring and a friend of mine bought two cracking ponies last year....
I have a hankering for a bay ;) I'd better get rich then, hadn't I???
I think he is going to be Peregrine.
If you come and get a pony from here, you don't need to be rich. They were selling at 2 for £10 :(
Bless your heart for saving your pretty brown pony. That is shocking that there were no buyers and the price is so low it is almost free!
You would like the work Madeleine Pickens is doing in the USA to save our wild mustangs, and which I support.
Horses and ponies are so noble and they need us.
I know nothing about horse and ponies but to me he is beautiful. Well done for saving him.
Congratulations to the winner.
And to the lovely pony. How heart wrenching that is. Totally heart wrenching.
Yes, it was the right thing to do. I look forward to watching him progress thru your photos. So glad you went back and got him.
Ooh Congratulations to the winner :)
Somehow I seemed to have missed your giveaway? Not sure how except my head being in the clouds more than normal at the moment probably?
I can't believe you can buy a beautiful pony like that for £15!!!! Wow! my daughter will be saving her pocket money if she knew. I wish we had somewhere to keep one, not that I know anything about training them or anything. Just love them.
I'm so glad you were able to rescue him. I like hearing about happy endings. I guess this is a happy beginning!
Bless you and your soft heart.

Oh I would have done that too and I'm not even a horse person. I am saving your 'ponies' photo to do during our hiatus.
Sturdy little lad - I can see why he caught your eye.
Horrible situation where there isn't a market for them, because ponies don't make good 'pets'.
Well done - I know I'd have taken the same decision! He's a nice chap - lots of heart room, and looks to have a good front and nice eye on him. He will repay you in bucketfuls I am sure and make a super child's pony later on.
Thank you! Lucky happy me!! It was a very difficult decision picking which I liked best, they're both such lovely paintings.
Congrats to the winner!
He is a beautiful colt, you did the right thing in saving him.
Bless you, I'm be so depressed with humans and how they treat animals in general and our world today, you made my heart a lot lighter.
Thank You
Lindaxx
Yea to the winner!
I am so pleased that you are poorer for having him, but soon, richness will increase!

Wait, you bought a colt for 15 pounds?? Amazing. And I'm so glad you bought him.
Congratulations to the winner!!
Beautiful new colt Danielle!! I am so glad you were able to bring him home. I very much look forward to your photos and posts on his growth and training!
What a nice little story. It must have been destiny that you and he will meet and you saved his life. Wonderful! :-) ~Crystal
I'm so glad you saved him:)
Just a hug to you......
