Half Term is nearing it's end, and sadly the children will have to return to school on Monday. It's been a busy week, with eldest daughter performing in the local pantomime. This is wonderful fun for her, but means that I have to sit up till late into the night in order to collect her after the performance has ended. As I am not a night owl, this is quite a chore! Still, it does mean that I have been working on 'Stook Deer', and it's very nearly finished. This one has two hares in it.
Middle daughter has spent the week getting to grips with her pony. We have finally found a replacement for Tishy, and are crossing our fingers that this is 'the one'! She is Squeak, a 12.1hh welsh pony, who is just the politest little mare I have ever handled. Unfortunately, I don't know much of her history, so we are taking things very slowly and getting to know her. Never-the-less, middle daughter is smitten!
Beetle and I took a stroll round the garden in the gaps between sleet showers this morning. My witch hazel is in full, glorious bloom, and I can see buds and new growth beginning to push through the ground. Spring is definately on it's way!
Edit: Squeak has a symbol clipped onto her quarters. It was suggested to me when I bought her that this was a warmblood brandmark that someone had decided to clip onto her, but it doesn't look like any I recognise. I thought it looked more like a japanese / kanji symbol, but if anyone recognises it , do let us know!

It's always a joy to catch up with your news, Danielle. So glad that Squeak is settling in. And, yes, spring is definitely in the air despite the frosty mornings. xx
I shall be facinated to know what that mark is too! yes, Spring is creeping in, we have buds on our apple trees.
OOps I meant to add that I eagerly await a glimpse of your new fabric art.
I could do with another week off as it has flown by!
Beautiful stitched hares.x
I'm really looking forward to seeing the lovely whole piece. I have the same thing with theatres and kids - thank goodness for little pieces of work to take in the car whilst I wait. Other people seem to read "Hello" - more fool they ... and then people say I seem to get a lot done!!
I absolutely ADORE your stitching and I enjoy every visit to your blog! I wanted to leave a comment today because I think we have the same witch hazels in our gardens...and I am on the west coast of USA. Isn't that splendid what the blogosphere lets us all share?!

Looking forward to seeing your finished piece.
Thankyou Carol Anne, Kath and Kayla Coo. It's finished! Just finished tonight as I waited up for the Panto finale!
Clare - i know just what you mean. I always take knitting or sewing while I wait for things. But only sketch books if I am waiting alone! I can sew or knit while yakking to others, but I can't sketch :)
Sweetpea - Yes, mine is 'Jelena' too - the most glorious copper / burnt pumpkin colour. I do wish it was scented though!
it looks like the Japanese kanji 手 which means hand
I love the eye on your finished hare, he's really looking out at you! And I had no idea what a witch hazel looks like until now...what a glorious colour! Glad to hear your spring is showing its face...I wish our Autumn would hurry along a bit!
Jojoebi - Thankyou! That's interesting - I wonder if it's used as a manga / anime symbol?
Christina - I kept going back to the eye, adding another stitch here and there till I was satisfied :)
Loving your HareS Danielle! xxx
