This past weekend saw my family gathering in Cornwall to celebrate the life of my grandmother, at a memorial service at the church of St Piran, in Perranuthnoe.
In the clear, icy sunlight, small people braved the water.
And we scattered ashes, and said Goodbye, on the headland, with a perfect view of the castle in Mount's Bay.
Both the songs posted here are favourites of mine, and while rummaging around online, and choosing music for the weekend, both of these seemed appropriate, particularly as they had videos using old black and white footage, akin to the images we were using to make our own slideshow of my grandmother's life. The video for the British Sea Power song is from a 1934 film Man of Aran. Though Aran is in Ireland, life would have been little different for fisherfolk in this most westernmost part of the British Isles, where life was ruled by the sea.

What a beautiful place to remember you Grandmother - and a place to revist again and again.
The details in the house are wondrous.
Seasonal good wishes

That is a lovely way to say farewell to your grandma, and I believe you will meet again, in the sweet by and by.
I enjoyed traveling here with you. My dh and I visited this area years ago, went to Padstow on May Day, which was great timing.
The place you stay sounds magical, now I will click on that link.

'Sanvean' is one of my favourite songs, but Lisa Gerrard singing just about anything can make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up...truly transporting music. A beautiful way to say goodbye to the matriarch of a family, we also scattered my grandmother's ashes out over the sea here, facing west towards the fabled islands of the 'ever young'...and other loved ones are out there too, and that's where I'll be when my time has come. I always feel that no matter where I am in the world, all I have to do is go down to the sea to be with them again. I hope your Christmas was a wonderful celebration of her life, and all your family together.
