A basketful of yarn!

Wow, I'm feeling slightly overwhelmed by the response to the last post! Thankyou so much everyone, especially for such kind comments! I promise I will try to visit everyone who has left a comment here, but it is going to take me a while - I'm only about a third of the way through so far.

I had a great find today! I was rummaging in the fabrics cabin at Proper Job, and found some beautiful wool. I came home with a basketful. The red is acrylic sadly, but I just couldn't resist that gorgeous colour. The smaller balls of turquoise are pure wool, and have a lovely soft yellowish fleck through them. I suspect they may be Rowan Yarn. Anyway, this whole basketful set me back £4, which I thought was a bargain!

I have finally knuckled down and begun work on a new series of paintings, trying to develop my illustrative style. I am trying to capture the feel of the old Japanese woodcuts, while playing with the effects of light through the trees. The starting point for this series was the fox and the crow, from Aesops Fables, but I can already feel it leaning towards themes of transformation.

And, this evening, I managed to bag TWO treasuries on Etsy. The first one was planned and ready, but then I clicked on the main treasury, and it just opened up in front of me. Well, I couldn't resist, knowing I could easily showcase a selection from my favourites and blogfriends!

Do check them out if you have the time!

Oh my, you wait all night

Proper Job sounds brilliant. I shall be sure to check it out next time I'm in Chagford - I do so love a good rummage!

It's always nice to see what fellow Devon bloggers are up to and your illustrations are lovely.

Good luck with the new paintings.

Your new painting is beautiful. It does have that Japanese feeling. I sometimes wonder if I should settle down to one style. Everything I do looks different. I guess I'm still exploring. I love the colors of the yarn you found and also the beautiful basket.

Congrats on the basketful of bargains. I love when that happens!

Your new painting is really lovely. I like the teal blue against the rusty background.

That truly is a bargain Danielle! When I'm seduced by a colour I must admit I overlook the fact it might be man-made! I love the style you've developed in your picture, it reminds me of the early 20th century illustrators who were influenced by Japanese woodcuts too.(Rackham and Dulac are my favourites of all time!) x

I'm not entering your lovely draw as I am trying to sort out my stuff and am trying not so add more goodies to the pile but I just wanted to say Hi and that you have a beautiful eye for your watercolours. They look so simple and calm - lovely. Take care
