One year Anniversary Giveaway!

It's one whole year since my first blog post! In this time, I have met so many wonderful people, discovered so many other brilliant blogs, and found such inspiration and support. I have enjoyed every minute of it, and so, in celebration, and in thanks, I am going to hold a draw for this little monochromatic, mixed media sketch of a hare. It's an original, measures about 6 x 8 inches, and is on watercolour board.

So, what do you have to do? Just leave a comment after this post. If it's an anonymous comment, then make sure you leave me a contact email. I will close the comments a week from now, next Wednesday, and draw the winner at random. So, if you want to win a Hare, get commenting! Open to everyone - existing customers, blogreaders, friends, random passers-by, don't be shy!

I am also going to have a celebratory SALE in my Etsy shop, lasting from now until Wednesday next week ( 29th April). All prints in my shop (Any size, includes ACEOs) will have 40% off to all blog readers. To make sure you get this, just convo me after your purchase for a revised invoice, asking for the blog anniversary discount!

And now, I thought I'd better explain the 'nettle thing' from the last post! It all began over an extended family supper at the weekend. We were discussing nettle soup, and all the children promptly went "yeeeuk, you can't eat nettles!", and all the adults said " Oh yes you can, they're delicious!". So, in an effort to prove this I have been trying to cook this week with nettles as a major ingredient. It's been pretty good fun, although they are not all converted yet. Tonight's offering was chholle with nettles ( spicy, sour chickpeas with nettles). A favourite of mine, although my husband felt it was a bit too worthy and good for you. I'll post the recipes if anyone is interested, and likewise, if you have any good recipes using nettles yourselves, do let me know. I might even give away a print for the best recipe!

cool!!
I love how serious this print is, serene, thoughtful.
I remember when I was little - my mum made me nettle soup once and I was so impressed she dared to pick them and that they could be eaten!

This piece is stunning! I love the moon and the hare's expression!
Love the foals in the last post too. I've always wanted to try nettles but they scare me ever since I road through a nettle patch barelegged and barebacked when I was a kid. My legs stung for ages.

Count me in the giveaway please :)

Many Congratulations on being a year old! I always love to come and see what you are up to and delight in your beautiful pictures and ponies.

I made nettle soup once, but it wasn't very nice? Maybe I didn't use a good recipe? I'll have another go I think.

What a lovely image. I can only hope that the goddess of luck might favor me...

I once had trout with nettle and sorrel sauce, but it was years ago and sadly I do not have the recipe (or live anymore in a place where the neighbors might pass along a few extra trout)

I LOVE this hare. It has so much character.

We eat nettles pretty regularly. Usually just steamed on top of pasta with cheese. A friend of mine just posted a recipe for nettle soup that her four kids loved (but it involved a whole stick of butter as well as potatoes and milk, so that was probably why). Do post your recipe--it sounds great to me, and I just wouldn't tell my kids that that green stuff was nettles.

One year, huh? I haven't gone back that far, but I've loved both your art and life posts.

Add me to the giveaway please. I only just found your site from your comment you over at Sarah B's website. I love your art work!!! Congrats on your year anniversary!

I would love to see your recipe for chick peas and nettles. I've been adding nettles to our dinners for the past few weeks. One of my favorites is to saute a bit of garlic or shallot, then add in as many finely chopped nettles and mixed greens (dandylion greens are good, too!) as will fit in the pan, a sprinkle of good smoked paprika, and a splash of stock. Put the lid on and let it all cook down into a green, dreamy mess. It's great on toast, or on top of polenta, maybe with a grate of cheese or a fried egg between the greens & bread.

I'd love to be included in the giveaway, but as I'm a relative newbie, I'll leave it up to you.

As for the nettles, YAAY! You are far more adventurous than I am and I stand in awe :) I will give some new recipes a try and please post the recipe for 'chholle with nettles ' as I'd love to try it.

What a beautiful hare! We have a bunny who lives in our family room. He's spoiled, and I think he knows it! I would LOVE to try your nettles recipes! Only one question - where do I go to buy nettles? Our local groceries don't have anything more exotic than collard greens, and the Home Depot doesn't sell nettles plants...Alas, I'll have to just dream of nettles.

Here is someone not far away from you in Devon picking nettles to juice - http://www.youtube.com/user/hollyoceanwavevibes

hi there and thanks for dropping by my little blog the other day.

your artwork is amazing and has such a tranquility to it, count me in as a new regular reader :)

i smiled when i read that you're trying to convert everyone when it comes to eating nettles as i'm also having a similar conversation with my other half at the mo!

to his credit he did try a hawthorn leaf the other day but remained unconvinced when i suggested we include it in our salad!

would love to try some nettle recipes though :)

congrats on a year of blogging too!

This is a great print! I love the rabbit moon, and it seems that the rabbit loves it too! I've never eaten hops (though I've drunk my share--they are a major ingredient in beer) and the hops shoots sound yummy!

Hi Danielle, a whole year, yea! You are such a prolific blogger. I just love your beautiful artwork which I found on etsy, and your inspiring blog.
We have a family of hares in the field behind our house which I love to watch early in the morning. You have caught their expression exactly. Amazing.
By the way, my Grandad used to make nettle soup for his arthritis and I have used nettle tea for prickly heat and hayfever. Great stuff! Enjoy.
